  •  I think that the way in which I could encounter copyright issues could be, as a history teacher, when I'm pulling text from a textbook or a book written by a historian. I would have to be very careful about how much I photocopy to use in demonstrations and examples for my students, so that I would not violate the terms of Fair Use. I was a little familiar with copyright and the Fair Use guidelines before reading, but I didn't know that there were both official and unofficial ways of copyrighting something. As a creative writer who posted online, I understood enough to put a copyright symbol on my essays, as well as designating the work as my own original piece. It's very liberating that this form of copywriting your work is respected, and could even be more legally fortified with the Creative Commons license.

  • Decreased productivity is one of the most common and present Technology Implementation Issues I've encountered, both as a student and as an aspiring educator. Social media on the phone and even on the computer is something I've observed occurring frequently. When it comes to what the student is doing on their computer, I've found that there are some screen-monitoring installations onto student's school provided laptops that enable the teacher to see and type messages to students' screens directly. This could help me to check that students are on task on their computers while working on assignments or assessments, while also being able to remind specific distracted students to focus without having to draw the attention of their classmates. When it comes to phone use overall, I would allow students to keep it on their person, so long as it doesn't become a distraction. Once it becomes a distraction that the student cant avoid paying attention to, I would quietly approach them with a basket for them to put their phone in, which they could then receive after the class had concluded. This could reduce students from being over reliant on their phones for stimulation by refocusing their attention to class via removing the phone from their access altogether.

  • The Newsletter assignment definitely pushed my boundaries as a Word user. I first had to switch from Word Online, as I found that it didn't show how my Newsletter would appear once submitted. Mostly, I struggled with formatting; how should I organize my text? What colors made sense and were legible? It was a little stressful as a perfectionist, but I learned how to adjust columns and play with font sizes and styles. I also found the serif and sans-serif article to be very enlightening, and I enjoyed playing with the different fonts for my subtitles and my body paragraphs. I think learning how to format more comfortably will be very useful when I have to do creative writing presentations and/or historical presentations. Its a unique way of demonstrating your knowledge of information. For my educational pursuits, I want to use this to send to my students to show benchmarks and information covered in the course, as an introduction to what they'll learn.
